The proudly Philippine made board game was invented by a Filipino named Sofronio Pasola, Jr. February 28, 1973, Game of The Generals was officially introduced to the public.
The game highlights a 9 X 8 square board and two players with 21 pieces each. Pieces represent individual officials and soldiers in the military. The goal of the game is to capture the opponent's flag or to move your flag right to their side of the board. The players can't see the positions or rank of one another pieces.
The movement of the pieces could be forward, backward, left or right. If an enemy piece is next to one of your pieces, you can "strike" it with your piece, and the lower-ranked piece is removed (unless the ranks are equal, in that case both are captured). Some players used to have a third person that would check the rank of each piece if the player strike the opponent’s piece
Each players consists of the following pieces, ranked from high to low:
- 1 Flag This can be moved and it can capture only with the opposing flag
- 1 5-Star General
- 1 4-Star General
- 1 3-Star General
- 1 2-Star General
- 1 1-Star General
- 1 Colonel
- 1 Lieutenant Colonel
- 1 Major
- 1 Captain
- 2 Lieutenant (1st and 2nd)
- 1 Sergeant
- 2 Spies - Spies can capture any piece except Privates
- 6 Privates - This is the only piece that can capture Spies
